Everyone has certainly heard of testers being asked to test an object, such as a pen, during an interview. What if you take a creative approach to this task? Here's a fun test of a blank sheet of paper from our students.

Functional testing
How many snowflakes can you cut out of it?
Can you eat it? (for example, a sheet of rice paper)
How long can it burn?
How much text can you write on it?
Can it wipe wet hands?
Is it recyclable?
Can it be used for making origami?
Does a felt-tip pen bleed through the sheet?
Turn the sheet over – check for the back side.
Can you use it to wrap a herring?
Can you write a letter to your grandma with a ballpoint pen on it?
How should it react in direct sunlight?
Does it straighten when rolled into a tube?
You can check whether it is thermal paper by running your fingernail over it, if it is thermal, there will be a dark stripe.
Can it be used as wrapping paper?
Can it be magnetized?
Load testing
Write very hard by pressing the pen
Soak the sheet and dry it to determine its condition after drying.
How many children can draw on it at the same time?
What is the resistance of the paper sheet to tearing force?
What if something weighing more than 200 grams is placed on the sheet?
Safety testing
Is it dangerous for people? Is it poisonous?
Pass the sheet between your fingers.
Check the chemical composition.
Is it safe for children?
Is it dangerous for animals if eaten?
Decomposition time for disposal
Will you get poisoned when you chew it?
Look at the sheet in the ultraviolet light: what if there is a secret code with bugs
Is it biodegradable? (I wonder who will check it over time…)
Design testing
Check the shade of white colour.
Check if the sheet edges are smooth.
Does it smell?
Measure the angles of the corners and assess the straightness of the margins.
The direction of the fiber structure.
Coated, uncoated.
Compare the blank sheet of paper with global paper brands.
Density across the entire sheet surface is uniform.
Stress testing
Tear the sheet.
Conduct a stress test with a parrot cage.
What will happen if you spill water on the sheet written on with a pen?
Give it to a dog for a crash test
Does it flatten out after being crumpled?
Make a boat and set it sailing. How long will it last before it sinks?
Draw a line with a pencil 100 times in the same place.
Negative testing
Make a paper crane.
Roll it up for sunflower seeds.
Roll it into a tube.
Pour water onto the sheet and try to lift it
How much can it get smeared by ketchup?
Reliability testing
Does fat from a dried fish leak?
How long can perfume smell last on it?
Does it become wet from painting?
Does the sheet deform after printing?
How long does the ink last?
Usability testing
Does the white sheet look bright in direct sunlight?
Is it comfortable to write on the sheet with a pencil?
Does it slide on the surface while writing?
Compatibility testing
Put another sheet with black letters and numbers under the blank one.
Does it need to be folded to fit into a file?
Put it into an old typewriter.
Can written text be masked with correction fluid?
